Pizza
Universally beloved Pizza is dish that originated in Italy, specifically from Naples. It is a versatile meal that consists primarily of a usually round, flat base of leavened wheat-based dough topped with tomatoes, cheese, and various other ingredients such as meats, vegetables, and condiments. Pizza's roots trace back to ancient times, but the modern pizza as we know it developed in Naples, Italy, during the late 18th to early 19th century. Initially, it was a food for the poor, convenient for eating on the go.
Margherita Pizza
The story goes that in 1889, to honor the Queen consort of Italy, Margherita of Savoy, the Neapolitan pizzamaker Raffaele Esposito created the "Pizza Margherita," topped with tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil, to represent the national colors of Italy as shown on the Italian flag.
